The recent spate of problems with products (or ingredients) produced by some China firms (pet food, toys, tires, toothpaste, cough syrup and shrimp, as examples) has highlighted a common risk problem for US companies in today’s global business environment. In the not so distant past, manufacturers (and retailers) of goods here in the US for the most part obtained most of their goods or raw materials from other US companies – nowadays even if the product is a “US” product, it’s a good bet that a significant portion of the product (or raw materials) come from outside the US.
